UPTOWN WIPEOUT
Wipe out graffiti and trash in your community! Everyone is affected by an unkempt community; the markings of graffiti, the unsightliness of trash strewn over our yards and streets. Instead of waiting for someone else to clean up the mess, volunteer and take back your UPTOWN!
The Uptown Association is using the micro grant, awarded by the City of Minneapolis for innovative graffiti prevention methods to clean up your neighborhood. But we need your help to make this possible!
Join or create your own wipe out team! We supply everything from paint and safety vests to trash bags and graffiti remover. Free food and beverages. Be recognized for your hard work when National Public Radio arrives on-site to do a story set to air September 5th. Simply CLICK HERE to sign up your team and check in at the headquarters located at the YWCA parking ramp on Hennepin Avenue at the time of your shift.

Operation Black Book at the 2008 Uptown Art Fair
Saturday, August 2nd 11 am- 4 pm
Sunday, August 3rd 12 pm- 4 pm
Located at Calhoun Square
at Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue
This year, the Uptown Art Fair was proud to host Operation Black Book, who created live works of graffiti art for art fair attendees. The Uptown Association (together with Calhoun Square, the YWCA, Juxtaposition Arts, and Intermedia Arts’ “The G.A.M.E.,” as well as various other community partners) recently hosted a series of workshops designed to curb illegal graffiti in Uptown, as well as educate youth about graffiti art and encourage them to apply their skills in a positive way. These “Operation Black Book” workshops were made possible by an Innovative Graffiti Prevention Micro-Grant awarded to the Uptown Association by the City of Minneapolis. During the Art Fair, program participants used graffiti lettering to create pieces, upon request, that incorporate customer’s names in exchange for a fee. So thanks again to all of the artists who made this event possible!
Tomorrow's Stars Seen Today
Saturday, August 2nd 11 am- 4 pm
Sunday, August 3rd 12 pm- 4 pm
Located at Calhoun Square
at Lake Street and Hennepin Avenue
The Uptown Art Fair was proud to showcase a diverse grouping of talented young artists at the Tomorrow's Stars Seen Today youth art fair, presented by Calhoun Square, Konica Minolta, and Apres Party Rental. These artists, ages 8-18, displayed, discussed and sold their work to visitors. From photography to sculpture, drawing to painting, jewelry making to fiber art, this youth art fair had it all. It was an excellent opportunity for young artists to experience an art fair alongside seasoned professionals and provided an outlet for their creative energy. Special thanks to all of the young artists who made this event possible, we encourage them to apply again next year!

The Calhoun Square Celebrity Art Auction
An exciting newer addition to the Uptown Art Fair, the Celebrity Art Auction showcases pieces created specifically for the event by partnerships of local celebrities and artists. This was the auction’s 2nd year and was held in the Suburban World Theater at 3022 Hennepin Avenue during the hours of the Art Fair. Bidding took place in silent auction format on site and online. To fit with this year’s theme “Artitude in the City,” local celebrities included people who represent the Twin Cities, like TV and radio personalities, as well as a firefighter, police officer, and mail carrier. Celebrities were paired with local artists to donate their time and have fun while collaborating in the studio to create works of art in a variety of media. All proceeds from the Celebrity Art Auction will go to the Minneapolis Public Schools Art Program to promote art and creativity in schools and in the community. Thanks to everyone who stopped by and bid on a work of art to make this event a huge success.
Wine Garden
This year, the Suburban World Theater, at 3022 Hennepin Avenue- between W. Lake Street and 31st Street, played host to the Uptown Art Fair Wine Garden. Barefoot© Wine was made available for purchase during art fair hours. In addition to purchasing a beverage, visitors enjoyed the Oxygen Plus™ Oxygen Bar for a breath of fresh air and perused the Celebrity Art Auction to bid on the numerous local-celebrity-created pieces.
Family Imagination Station
Special thanks to Northern Clay Center, Minnesota Center for Photography, Textile Center, and Minnesota Center for Book Arts for hosting the Family Imagination Station. Visitors created original works of art and had some fun along the way.
